When it comes to home renovations or construction projects, there are many times we have to project what is under the ground, or behind the wall. We make assumptions that we know, but we often encounter challenging surprises.

Dig a footing? Should be simple, but it often is not. We were hired to build a wood-framed fire escape. The excavator bucket reached down to scoop out another mound of earth and...CLANG! We had uncovered an unknown, underground oil tank.

Today we excavated for footings, but discovered an old truck tire, discarded concrete, and other obstacles in the way of installing the required footings.
